Sean O’Dowd, Master Potter and entrepreneur is the person behind Ballydougan Pottery at Bloomvale House. In 1984, Sean started his craft pottery and within a few years Ballydougan Pottery became known as one of the most innovative craft studios throughout Ireland. Over the years many awards and accolades have been presented to Ballydougan in recognition of its contribution to Craft, Tourism & Corporate & Social Responsibility.
In the Pottery Workshop Seán and his team of Potters have been producing a large range of decorative and functional pottery for many years. Our range of strong and distinctive designs have become our trademark. Every piece of work reflects the tradition and durability of stoneware pottery. From the raw clay each Potter will skilfully throw the pots on the potter’s wheel and then decorate by hand timeless pieces of pottery finished to the highest standards. Ballydougan is one of a very few Potteries where the traditional skill of throwing on the potter’s wheel continues to this day. Our extensive range of Pottery is both functional and fashionable. It includes traditional Dinner and Tea services. Each piece of Ballydougan Pottery is designed to be used and enjoyed. An extensive range of products allows you to add to your collection.
Group outings to Ballydougan may include a Pottery Demonstration and talk in the Pottery Workshop. Or for those who wish to be creative, pottery classes are available for individuals or Groups. You might wish to try “throwing on the potter’s wheel”, “hand-building with clay” or “paint-a-pot”. Whatever you desire we have a class to suit your ability and creativity and you too can create your own masterpiece in our Pottery Workshop. This will be fired and glazed and ready for collection within a few weeks. Organising a Hen Party, Birthday treat, Team Building Day? Why not consider a “hand-building with clay” or “paint-a-pot” session and have fun while also being creative! A skilled potter is always on hand to guide and offer inspiration..
At Ballydougan, our pottery is hand-made and hand-decorated, so each piece is unique and therefore slight variations between similar products may exist. This is part of the charm and character of hand produced pottery. Ballydougan Pottery is dishwasher & microwave proof, oven to tableware. Do NOT place items of Pottery directly onto the hob.
