Sean O’Dowd, Master Potter and entrepreneur is the person behind Ballydougan Pottery at Bloomvale House. In 1984 Sean started his craft pottery at Ballydougan. Within a few years Ballydougan Pottery became known as one of the most innovative craft studios throughout Ireland. This was acknowledged in 1998 when Ballydougan Pottery won the British Airways Northern Ireland Tourist Board award for the best new project that year.

From the raw clay each Potter at Ballydougan will skillfully produce his timeless pieces of pottery making sure throughout the process that it is cared for and finished to the highest standards. Ballydougan Pottery provides a complete range of hand-thrown and decorated stoneware, the colours and design of which are inspired by nature: the Meadow collection and the Bramley Apple range, are just part of the selection that reflect our world of flora and fauna. In the workshop individual designs by the studio potter create classically beautiful shapes from the formless clay. Each piece of Ballydougan Pottery is thrown and decorated by skilled hands, using techniques employed by potters for millennia. Every line and brushstroke is unique.

The extensive range of pottery created includes the traditional Dinner and Tea services, cups, saucers, mugs, plates of all sizes, tea and coffee pots, storage jars, biscuit barrels, bread crocks and casseroles galore, and a glorious selection of Contemporary Giftware.
The giftware selection offers contemporary design with a traditional feel that presents timeless appeal. Aroma burners, biscuit bowls, a range of candlesticks, wine carafe with matching goblets, soup tureen with ladle and soup bowls on individual side plates or punch bowl complete with ladle and pretty punch cups make gift-giving a pleasure.
